Streaming on bump

Not sure how to go live? Follow these steps and start broadcasting on bump!

ℹ️ Note: Support for all major live streaming applications is available.

For the purpose of this guide, we will be using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) which can be downloaded from https://obsproject.com/


Step 1 - Sign up to bump and Create your channel

Start by signing up to bump. You can do so by clicking the Sign Up button on the bump header banner. Choose your preferred method to sign up and follow the steps. Welcome to bump!

Once you're logged in to your account, you will need to create your channel. You can do that in a couple of different way:

  • You can visit your channel page by clicking on your profile picture in the header

  • Or you can go to the stream tab of your Creator Dashboard and click on the "Create Channel" button in the Credentials section

Step 2 - Locate your Server URL and Stream Key

Locate your Server URL (Ingest endpoint) and Stream Key by logging into the bump.live account you wish to stream from in the Stream tab of the Creator Dashboard.

Step 3 - Add your Server URL and Stream Key to OBS

  1. Open OBS

  2. Click "File"

  3. Click "Settings"

  4. Click "Stream"

  1. Change the service to "Custom..."

  2. Paste the "Server" Ingest endpoint from your Creator Dashboard

  3. Paste the "Stream Key" from your Creator Dashboard

  4. Press Apply

ℹ️ Note: Service preset option will be available soon


Step 4 - Stream output options

When first starting, you will be on a Basic channel configuration and will not have access to streaming quality options.

You can request a Standard channel configuration via the Stream tab on the Creator Dashboard.

ℹ️ Note: Standard tier channels will be automatically granted based on channel viewing metrics and/or manual review basis.

In OBS, to change your output settings click the Output option from the OBS Settings panel.

By default, all channels will start on Standard tier, please review your bitrate, resolution and keyframe settings on OBS are acceptable, otherwise, your stream may crash.

Suggested preset configuration settings for Premium channels are available on our Broadcasting guidelines.

Premium channel configuration

Premium tier channels are transcoded. The highest video resolution produced is full HD, 1080p.

  • Audio: For renditions 360p and below, audio is transcoded. For other quality renditions, the original audio is passed through.

1920x1080

Keyframe interval

2 seconds

Constant bitrate (CBR)


Step 5 - Setting your stream information

Before going live you can change your broadcast title, category, tags and more.

ℹ️ Note: Broadcasts will have a default title, description and category if none are set. Past broadcasts can be edited and will be available during and after the broadcast ends.

To set your stream info before going live:

  1. Go to the Stream tab on your Creator Dashboard and click the Edit icon on the Stream Info panel

    OR

    Go to your watch page and click on the Edit icon under the player.

  2. Personalise your broadcast

  3. Press Save

ℹ️ Note: It is your responsibility as a creator to turn on the Adult Content toggle if you're planning to broadcast adult content. More info about streaming adult content can be found in our Community Guidelines.


Step 6 - Going Live

You are all set! Make sure your OBS scenes are set up and press the "Start Streaming" button on your OBS software when you're ready!


Step 7 - Ending your Stream

To end a live stream, click "Stop Streaming" button on your OBS software.

bump will display to your viewers an offline banner that you can configure in your Creator Dashboard under the Branding tab, and your replay will be saved to your channel page.


Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my stream stutter or keep restarting?

If you're noticing that your stream is stuttering/lagging, you should try adjusting your OBS settings.

On the Creator Dashboard, you can see if your channel has enhanced bitrate options under the Quality options status panel.

  • Reduce your bitrate based on your quality options

  • Refer to our Broadcasting guidelines for preset configuration for x264 / H.264

What is the maximum resolution?

1920x1080. Please ensure your Rescale Output on OBS is checked at this value.


What is the maximum bitrate?

  • Standard channels: 3,500kbps.

  • Premium channels: 8,500kbps.

What is the maximum FPS?

60fps.

What encoding is supported?

X264 and H.264 encoding.

What is the Maximum Audio Bitrate I can use?

Please select 'Stereo' at a maximum of 48kHz only.

How do I regenerate / reset my Stream Key?

To regenerate your stream key, please visit your Creator Dashboard and click the "Regenerate" button on the Credentials panel. Once requested, there is a cooldown.

ℹ️ Note: If you reset your stream key, don't forget to update your streaming software with the new key.
